This is the Rare 1896 First Printing of a Subscription Copy/Sales Dummy, Salesman's Sample of the PERSONAL RECOLLECTIONS AND OBSERVATIONS OF GENERAL NELSON A. MILES EMBRACING A BRIEF VIEW OF THE CIVIL WAR...AND THE STORY OF HIS INDIAN CAMPAIGNS...and Copiously Illustrated with Graphic Pictures by Frederick (Sic) Remington (Many of which can be found within this dummy copy) and other Eminent Artists. Measuring 7.5" x 10", it was published in 1896 by the Werner Co. of Chicago, this sample consisting of 187 pp. in various paginations of selected excerpts from the book and 25 black & white plates by Reminton and others, followed by 8 blank leaves where secured subscriptions to the book could be recorded. This sample book includes 3 different examples of the book's binding in: 1) Publisher's cloth ornately illustrated in brown, gilt, black & silver 2) 3/4 black leather with pebbled blue cloth boards 3) Full black Leather ornately illustrated and titled in gilt on the front cover and spine.
